With anglers often fishing a more 'tips up' style this potentially causes a risk to the rod being able to flip over the bite alarm on a savage take, especially when locked up. Even with rods at a low or flat angle a savage take can pull the rod out of a traditional back rest and over the bite alarm - it's happened to us. So the design criteria was for a solid way to prevent this from happening without using an ugly bit of bungee cord or having to attach something to the rod. It also needed to be quick and easy to release and be able to fit a wide range of rod diameters. After many prototypes this design proved itself time and time again. The 'lock and key' mechanism is held under the tension provided by the rubber inserts. The lever provides instant, one finger release of the rod. It also doubles up as a great landing net support!!
The inserts are easily replaceable for use with different rods and landing nets.
To measure your rod diameter, wrap a piece of paper around your rod where your back rest would go and mark where it over laps to give the rod's circumference. Check the chart below to see what insert you need. If you know your exact diameter, go for the smaller size. So a diameter of 20.8mm needs a 20mm insert.
59 - 62mm - 20mm Insert
62 - 65mm - 21mm
65 - 68mm - 22mm
68 - 71mm - 23mm
71 - 74mm - 24mm
74 - 77mm - 25mm
